Vineyard Description
This 90 acre vineyard, owned by Timber Crest Farms and named for Ruth Waltenspiel, is located in Alexander Valley and shares the western bank of the Russian River. Grower Randy Peters planted clones 2, 7 & 337. The 15 year old vines grow in Cortina soil, a gravely sandy loam, which forces the vines to work hard for water creating small berries and intense flavors.
Winemaker Notes
This wine is introduced with deep ruby hues and aromas of cigar box, cedar, black currant, and anise, with a noted minerality. The palate is lush, juicy and focused. A vibrant acidity, integrated tannins, and long lingering flavors of bing cherry and spice make up the finish. Drinking well young, but will grow in complexity over the next 10 years.
