Our winery is located at Timber Crest Farms in beautiful Dry Creek Valley, Healdsburg, California. This very unique and scenic property has a rich history in Sonoma County dating back to the mid 1800's. The Waltenspiels have lived and farmed this property since 1954. Ronald Waltenspiel was born and raised in Sonoma County and is a second generation farmer. There has been Zinfandel on the property for over 150 years and we still use cuttings from the original vines.
Like many other wineries in this area, the original winery on the property closed after Prohibition. Even so, the ranch continued to grow wine grapes and in 1957, the Waltenspiels started their business, Timber Crest Farms (consisting of the Sonoma Brand), focusing on organic dried fruits. Their products were sold nationally in supermarkets, gourmet shops and specialty stores. Their dried fruits were also sold at the store located on the property itself until 2003.
The estate vineyard, behind the winery, is planted with Zinfandel, Primitivo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Muscat and Sauvignon Blanc. It has been farmed by Randy Peters, our partner in the winery, since 1974. Randy has planted all of the vineyards on the property except one. Having farmed this land for so long and knowing the different blocks and soil types, Randy has chosen our vineyard rows accordingly. Some of the varietals on the ranch were even planted specifically for us. Timber Crest Farms experimented with organic fertilizers long before the popular demand for organically grown products and continues to this day to be good stewards of the land.
Today the property is not only home to our winery, but also Amphora Winery, Family Wineries Tasting Room, Papapietro Perry Winery, Peterson Winery, the Dry Creek Olive Company and Grey Creek Viticultural Services.
