2017 Zinfandel, Timber Crest

Winemaker's Reserve, Timber Crest Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley

$40.00

Overview

Timber Crest vineyard is located on Dry Creek’s world renowned bench land on the east side of the valley. Dry Creek Valley is known for its outstanding quality of fruit, primarily Zinfandel. This Zinfandel was grown in a block of 40 year old vines that are trellised in a bi-lateral cordon on a west facing bench. The grapes come from the “old mother clone,” which was perpetuated from the vines that winery partner/grower, Randy Peter’s great grandfather farmed in Dry Creek Valley. The vineyard itself is owned by Ruth and Ronald Walstenspiel, who have been farming hundreds of Dry Creek Valley acres for over 50 years.

Tasting Notes

This estate grown wine is luscious, juicy, and well-structured; It greets with aromas of dark cherry and blackberry with undertones of black pepper that follow through and are joined with flavors of cassis and red raspberry. Velvety tannins are balanced perfectly by nice acidity and the finish leaves you with notes of plum, black cherry, and nuances of more black pepper. This wine will continue to develop for the next several years and can be laid down for seven to ten years.
