2018 Pinot Noir, Winemaker's Reserve

Peters Vineyard, Sonoma Coast



Located in West Sonoma County, 8 miles from the coast as the crow flies, this is the perfect location for Pinot Noir. This vineyard’s soil composition is a rich Goldridge Sandy Loam. With consistent foggy conditions which extend hang time, the fruit is fully developed and loaded with complexity. This former Gravenstein apple orchard was replanted in the early 1980’s by Randy Peters, who paired the right clone with the right vineyard site. Peters Vineyard is planted to 5 different Pinot Noir clones, two of which are heritage clones (planted in the early 1980’s): Pommard and Wädenswil. While other wines may be blended with other varietals to provide depth and character, it is notable that the delicate nature of Pinot Noir only allows for blending clonally. This characteristic makes our barrel selection of Pinot Noir a treasure to us.

Tasting Notes

This is a barrel selection from our favorite barrels of the 2018 vintage of Peters Vineyard Pinot Noir. This opulent Pinot Noir is deep garnet in color and boasts aromas of plum, clove, and nutmeg with subtle nuances of black tea. Light bodied, with a satiny mouthfeel and delicate tannins, flavors of red plum, raspberry and Bing cherry are offset by hints of cinnamon. A long finish of plum and red fruit lingers pleasantly on the palate.
